Team Project: Alex Landgrave and Lija Lubavs

This project was sold to Vernal Arts Center, Inc. as a contribution to their desire to construct a performing arts center in the city of Vernal.

The small rural city of Vernal, Utah, is a crossroads of connectivity. It serves as a node for linking people, resources, and nature. Despite being so advantageously positioned, it has a growing need to capitalize on connecting people together downtown. The building’s dance, painting, and ceramic studios all have visual cues to central circulation - which also cuts the divide between floor separation with use of balconies and apertures. Central to the design is an amphitheater and auditorium, mirroring each other with a glass wall that provides visual connection, as well as the capability to lift to provide for shared interior/exterior use.
